The State Championship School Bus Safety Roadeo Competition was held on Sunday, May 24th at the Galt Market Place in the city of Galt. All contestants were trophy winners at either the southern or northern competition previously held in late April and early May. California has awarded the top prize to the State Champion for regular education and one for special needs transportation. Doug Smith of Snowline Unified School District took home the Championship School Bus Safety Roadeo trophy by receiving the top score in 10 specialized defensive driving events. Smith also received the highest score on the written exam and only one of four contestants who answered correctly on the bonus question. click here: Bonus Question and Answer" to view the correct answer to the bonus question. 2nd Place trophy was awarded to David Lancaster of San Diego Unified and third place was awarded to Samuel Meeks of Huntington Beach Unified School District."2009 State Championship Contestants" to view a photo of all the contestants. UP at speed then slowing down. Between Galt and Agnew IL. Bridge at front of clip is new as the girder span was taken out in a derail a couple of years ago. Clip a little bumpy because of gravel road. Thought I would add an advice, my son was doing the holding of the camera, never try this at home/road by yourself.
