Update on status of downtown Post Office, redevelopment plans –
Since 2006, the City of Roseville Redevelopment Agency has been working in conjunction with the United States Postal Service (USPS) to acquire their property at 330 Vernon Street. This site is directly adjacent to the old City Hall annex building.

Recently a local news station reported that the intent of this purchase was to relocate the USPS operations, and implied the retail component would be moving out of the downtown area, which is not the case.

Although the City Council has yet to act on this acquisition, the intent of this proposed purchase is to create a viable future development site and retain the retail component of the USPS operations within the downtown.

In the past, the postal operations at this location have included a distribution center and a retail component. As part of the proposed acquisition, the retail component would remain on-site or be relocated to a nearby space within the downtown.

Election 2010 info and deadlines –
On November 2, city voters will select two members of our community to serve on the Roseville City Council. The two Council seats are currently held by Mayor Gina Garbolino and Councilmember Jim Gray. Both Garbolino and Gray are ineligible to be candidates in the next election as the Roseville Charter stipulates that no member shall serve more than two (2) consecutive four (4) year terms and both have served two consecutive terms.

Local campaign finance reform was implemented in Roseville in 2000. An ordinance aimed at lowering campaign costs and slowing the increase in campaign spending was adopted by the City Council.

Roseville City Council approves contract for City Manager Mike Shellito, continues executive search for permanent city manager –
Jan. 20, 2010

At its meeting Wednesday, the Roseville City Council unanimously approved the employment contract for City Manager Mike Shellito.

Last October, Shellito, who was assistant city manager and community services director, was appointed by City Council to serve as interim city manager when it placed former City Manager Craig Robinson on leave. Shellito offered to serve through Dec. 31, 2009 with no additional compensation, and under the proposed contract on tonight’s City Council agenda, he will continue to serve as city manager until the recruitment process is completed and a permanent city manager is hired..
